Athletic Sports at Hira School

We were very lucky to have a day of athletics at Hira School. We were given a fantastic welcome and run down on what their school was all about. We had a very enjoyable day and tried out all events. It was fun to meet the children and staff of Hira. Here's hoping that we can have a reciprocal day at APS.
We have photos of practice times and also of the day. Children's stories to follow.

Whiskers

Our class rabbit has made a big hit and is definitely part of the class.
The class are very loving to her and she is very friendly in return.
We let her run around the class before school starts in the morning and sometimes after lunch. She is a bit naughty about checking out and sometimes toppling models, which is not appreciated.

Opening of our new kindergarten

In October the kindergarten finally opened and we were able to go through for a visit. Trafalgar enjoyed seeing and playing on the equipment.
We are also enjoying the under 2s play area adjacent to our classroom. It is nice for big brothers and sisters being able to visit with younger siblings.

Alf's Army

Alf's army came to school and we were able to act out the Zulu war. Trafalgar Room were all Zulus and we are pretty sure that on the day we won the battle.
Alf's army helped us to make swords.
During the battle if anyone died a nurse could say, "Never mind, it's just a scratch." After this the person could then get up and fight on.
At the end we had to shake hands to indicate that the battle was over and we were back to being friends.

Retelling a Dr Suess Story

Along with the rest of the school Trafalgar Room have retold the story of how Horton Hatches and egg. Here are 2 examples.

Retold by Saphire
Mayzie wanted to go on a holiday and she cannot because she has an egg. Horton sat on the egg and on the nest for her. Nayzie would not come back.
The hunters found Horton and they sold him to the circus. He found Mayzie and she was angry because Horton wouldn't give her the egg. The egg hatched and it was an elephant bird. Horton and the baby went home.

Retold by Rueben
Mayzie, the bird, is mean. She wanted the elephant to sit on the tree and he did that for her.
Horton is a nice elephant. He sat on the egg. Mayzie went on vacation and she decided not to come back.
The hunters saw Horton sitting on the egg. They caught him. They took him over the mountains and over the sea. He got seasick. The hunters sold Horton to the circus. Mayzie wanted the egg back and the egg turned into an elephant bird. Mazie was angry 100%.
They took Horton and the baby back home.

Visit to Bishop School

We were lucky to have a visit to the Bishop School, in Nile Street. Quite a few children were off sick but the rest of the class enjoyed their visit. Nicky (AKA Mr Green) demonstrated to us what life at school in the 1800s would be like.

Our beautiful pigs

We made some paper mache pigs. It was the day after our disco so some people's hair is 'disco coloured'.

A fantastic story by Vincent

One day Big Foot came to the jungle. He said, "Hunters are coming. We need an army."
I brought Griffins from Dream World. He is the king of the jungle. He stole dynamite.
"I have a friend giant," said Big Foot...

Then the war started. The giant smashed the rocks and it made an earthquake. The king sneaked an empty canon and put the dynamite in it. CABOOM!! It made a forest fire.
They called the fire whale and it gave the King of the Jungle some water and he put it out.
The End

Tasman Sport

Tasman sport brought their caravan to school and it was full of lots of equipment that we were able to use. Senior children were trained to use the euipment and then they helped Trafalgar room to go through the circuit.

Yuki's visit to our class

Grace brought her dog Yuki to visit our class. We found out that Yuki was very lively and was good at chasing and finding balls.
We were very gentle with Yuki.

Trip to the Marina

Trafalgar Room walked to the marina with our helpers. We looked at the boats and yachts. We also did some sketching of boats that were out of the water.

League Training

We have been very lucky this term to have Coach Andrew and Coach Mike come and take the class for rugby league skills.
