Tabloid Sport with Hira School

What a fantastic day on Friday, with Hira School coming to visit for Tabloid Sports. The children interacted with each other really well and the events were well thought out and organised. We started with a welcome at the hall. Mrs Hockley welcomed Hira and the boys did a Haka. Hira joined us for Jump Jam, which was a lot of fun. Watch out for the stories, from the class later this week.

Seasonal Ceramics at the Suter

Last week we made a trip to the Suter and had the opportunity to work with some clay and produce an angel each. As we are only learning some of the angels looked 'un angel like!'. This was quite a tricky task and all the children had a really good attempt at producing their angel. We can't wait until Esther (at the Suter) has the chance to fire them and we can get them back to paint. It was a fantastic sessions thanks to the many parents who came along and helped out. This made the job much easier.

Cricket Coaching

We have been very lucky this term to have Jake and Yap come and coach the class to develop their cricket skills. The children are learning how to throw properly and how to bat. Matariki has been a great sportsman and helped others, although he is often first to field the ball. Great throwing skills from lots of the children.

Whiskers the basketballer!!

Matariki, Cody S., and Cody H. said:
On Friday Whiskers played basketball in the back room. She was rolling the basketball around on the floor with her nose and the side of her head.
Whiskers was enjoying herself and we think that she could go into a basketball team.
We like Whiskers because she is cuddly and she is fun to watch.

The Disco

Last Thursday night we had a disco at school.
Grace wrote: I was at the disco at school. I did take my brother along too. I danced on the stage.
Matariki wrote: I went to the disco with my brother. We ran to the school. I was wearing a coloured wig.

Yummy Banana Splits

Last week we made banana splits. Some of the kids from Nile Room
came and helped us. We had fruit salad and icecream and cream. On the top we put hundreds and thousands and also chocolate hail. They were really yum! Sequoia and Shay

Ronald McDonald's visit

Ronald McDonald came to visit our school on Friday. Some of the Kindergarten children came to watch. He taught us about clicking our seat belts to keep safe in the car. He also talked about keeping safe when walking along. He was really funny!

Spud Murphy - Looking good

We are very pleased with how Spud is growing. At the moment Spud measures just over 10cm in height. We wondering what ingredient will help Spud to grow lots of potatoes. We have high hopes of doing well in the potato growing competition, although we are keeping an eye on St Vincent Room's progress.

Trafalgar Room Assembly

We have worked hard for the last four weeks in order to be ready for our first big class assembly. We presented items and information on our 'Tiny Creature Feature' topic. The children all had the opportunity to say something. Ashley and Matariki led the assembly very ably and Cody S. worked the overhead projector.
It was a fantastic assembly and we were all very proud of the effort made by the class.
Thank you to all the parents that attended the assembly. It makes a big difference to the children when they have the support of their family.

Kapa Haka - Term 3

We are lucky to have Whaia Tania come and take us for Kapa Haka activities.
We learnt a new song, started to make pois and had a game. This photo shows Shay and Eva (with help from Jack) plaiting a poi - very tricky.

Buddy Reading

Last term we started a buddy reading programme between the senior and junior classes. This is working really well and Trafalgar Room love the opportunity to 'read' with seniors. This is very beneficial and the seniors have been very thoughtful and caring towards the junior class.

Boulder Bank Trip

The whole school went to the boulder bank and into the light house. We traveled across by boat and walked along to the light house. We had a hearty lunch and some children built wonderful creations out of drift wood and other items.

Fundamental Skills

We have been lucky to have Helen come along each week and share some of her expertise re fundamental ball skills. The class are really enjoying their time with her and are learning a lot.

Triathlon 2011

We had a fabulous day for our triathlon. This year all children had to do all three activities rather than participate as a team. Everyone completed the course and were a real credit to the school.
It was rather chilly in the water but children still managed to jump in and get on with the task.
